We review products and services at Nerds and Scoundrels. Here’s how we come up with our reviews.
Unbiased Reviews
Our obligation is to the reader, not the sales department of a gaming or hardware company. Our product reviews are designed to provide the reader with a clear picture of whether a product is right for them. We will always be fair and honest with our feelings instead of focusing on acting as a third-party sales agent.
No Formal Ratings
Our reviews do not involve formal ratings. We don’t give products stars or numbers, and we rarely compare two products to each other. Finding the right gear isn’t a competition. Our goal is to help the reader understand the value and the function of a specific product before they make a purchase.
When reviewing multiple items, like our article on the Best Laptops for Baldur’s Gate 3, we often lump some recommendations into specific categories. This includes assigning options for the Best Pick, Budget Pick, and Premium Choice to give our readers options relative to what they would like to spend.
Full Disclosure
Most of our reviews are for products or services we have paid for ourselves. In some cases, we supplement our own experience with information provided by the manufacturer or designer of the product in question. If we review a product or service and given a review copy for free, we will always disclose that. Review copies will never dissuade us from giving an honest opinion.
