Does Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos Have Subclasses?

The new Dungeons & Dragons 5E expansion has dropped and it is a doozy! Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos is the newest rules expansion for the tabletop RPG, and brings in the college from the universe of Magic: The Gathering. There are a bunch of new additions to the game that this book offers. Much of them are player choices or DM rewards. However, there is one type of choice that we hope drops with every book. That is, does Strixhaven have new subclasses? We’ll tell you!

Are there Subclasses in Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos?

Unfortunately, Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos does not have any sort of new subclass or archetype. There are plenty of character options, such as new spells and feats that a player can choose, as well as backgrounds and magic items to explore. However, there is no new option to take for your class archetype.

Did Strixhaven include subclasses

Do not fret! There is plenty in Strixhaven for a player to grab. You can play with the new race, the Owlin. You can also choose a college, including five backgrounds from every single one of Stixhaven’s colleges. And there are brand new spells that are very much worth looking into… especially Silvery Barbs! That spell is very much worth playing around with.

However, we’re not really getting many class options in this book at all. The Owlin is important as are the spells, but the classes themselves were untouched. That’s a bit of a shame. This would have been a good place for a new Wizard school based on Strixhaven. Or, there could have been opportunities for Warlocks to gain a new patron.

Oh well! The environment is very cool, and the backgrounds are worth gathering by themselves. The book is fun as heck, and we still recommend it if you can afford it!
