You and up to eight willing creatures within range fall unconscious for the spell’s duration and experience visions of another world on the Material Plane, such as Oerth, Toril, Krynn, or Eberron. If the spell reaches its full duration, the visions conclude with each of you encountering and pulling back a mysterious blue curtain. The spell then ends with you mentally and physically transported to the world that was in the visions.
To cast this spell, you must have a magic item that originated on the world you wish to reach, and you must be aware of the world’s existence, even if you don’t know the world’s name. Your destination in the other world is a safe location within 1 mile of where the magic item was created. Alternatively, you can cast the spell if one of the affected creatures was born on the other world, which causes your destination to be a safe location within 1 mile of where that creature was born.
The spell ends early on a creature if that creature takes any damage, and the creature isn’t transported. If you take any damage, the spell ends for you and all the other creatures, with none of you being transported.
Spell Breakdown
Dream of the Blue Veil is a 7th-level Conjuration spell. Which makes it a pretty high level spell and there’s a reason for that. It has a range of 20 feet. This isn’t the greatest range in the world but that shouldn’t matter too much. It also takes 10 minutes to cast and has a duration of 6 hours. Now with all of that out of the way, let’s get into what this spell actually does.
Dream of the Blue Veil causes yourself and up to 8 willing creatures in range to become unconscious. Now right now that probably doesn’t sound all that great but just wait. Once everyone is unconscious, they all experience visions of another world on the material plane. The exact worlds you get to choose from being Oerth, Toril, Krynn and Eberron. These visions last for 6 hours. Once it has ended you all transport physically to the world in those visions.
But the spell isn’t as simple to cast as you might expect. In order to see visions of any of these different worlds you need to possess a magic item that comes from it. For example you won’t be able to see and go to Krynn unless you specifically have an item from that place. Alternatively if one of the creatures that the spell has been cast on is from one of those worlds, then that is another way in. If during the 6 hours any of the creatures are attacked they get pulled out of the visions and aren’t able to be teleported. If the caster is attacked or damaged then every creature affected by the spell is woken up.
