Fizban Treasury of Dragons Feats Guide

In total, there are three new 5E feats available in Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. It should come as no surprise that each of them follows a draconic theme. In fact, these feats effectively mimic the benefits offered by the new draconic lineages also in Fizban’s. That means you can get all of the unique aspects of a lineage while playing an entirely different race. It’s up to you if the price of a feat is worth it.

Gift of the Chromatic Dragon

You’ll notice a pattern here, as the Gift of the Chromatic Dragon feat offers options that will look pretty familiar to anyone that has reviewed the Chromatic Dragon lineage. This feat offers two major benefits: chromatic infusion and reactive resistance:

  • Chromatic Infusion: Using your bonus action, you can add 1d4 of your choice of acid, cold, fire, poison, or lightning damage for one minute. This can’t be used again until a long rest.
  • Reactive Resistance: Any time you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison damage, you can use your reaction to give yourself resistance to that type of damage. This feature reloads on a long rest and can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.

Chromatic Infusion is fine, but it doesn’t scale. Adding 1d4 of your choice of damage type is useful for martial characters, but one use per day is pretty limiting. Reactive Resistance has the potential to be lifesaver, though. You can use this multiple times a day to potentially cancel lots of damage, and you get more uses as you level.

Gift of the Gem Dragon

This feat allows you to manifest the powers of gem dragons. It provides you with:

  • Ability Score Increase: Boost INT, WIS, or CHA by 1, up to a maximum of 20.
  • Telekinetic Reprisal. As a reaction, you can deal force damage and push creatures away from you when they cause you damage.

An ASI is always helpful, but there are plenty of feats that give that. Telekinetic Reprisal is interesting, but it is important to note it only works on creatures that are within 10 feet of you. 2d8 force damage with your reaction isn’t bad and you can use this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus before needing a long rest. The DC has the potential to be pretty strong, as well, as it take into account both your proficiency bonus and the ability modifier of the score you increased using this feat.

Gift of the Metallic Dragon

This feat allows you to manifest the powers of metallic dragons. It offers you:

  • Draconic Healing: You learn cure wounds. Not only can you cast this once per long rest, but you can also use it with any spell slots you have left.
  • Protective Wings: Using your reaction, you can manifest spectral wings to protect yourself or allies within 5 feet of you. When you or a nearby ally is hit by an attack roll, you can grant a bonus to the target’s AC equal to your proficiency bonus. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.

This is a great feat, especially if you are the party’s defender. Cure wounds is always useful, and protective wings could dramatically reshape the outcome of a fight.
