Kumo Preview
What are you looking for in an indie game? For your friends at Nerds and Scoundrels, it’s thoughtful artwork, unique gameplay, and a story we can get behind. KUMO, which recently launched on Kickstarter, appears to have all three.
The Basics
Billed as “an emotional story in the sky,” Kumo follows a boy on his adventure through the gorgeous, empty kingdom in the clouds. Kumo is rich with puzzles. Set in a forgotten kingdom high above the clouds, you will explore a colorful world in search of magical glyphs and other clues. Your spirit is your guide, which will lead you to different puzzles and discoveries.
Currently scheduled for PC and Mac, Kumo could also land on Switch and release with a co-op mode if the Kickstarter hits its funding goal.
The Creator
Kumo is developed by Benjamin Gregg, a developer who has spent the last two years crafting Kumo in his spare time. Based in the UK, this is his first attempt at Kickstarter campaign.
Release Info
At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign has just gone live. The final goal for the campaign is $32,679, and the campaign wraps up on February 21, 2019. If all goes well, the developers hope to have the final game out by the end of 2019.
Want an early look at the game now? You can download a playtest here. Keep in mind, this is a playtest released to support the Kickstarter launch. As such, it’s not a full demo.
Conclusion
While it remains to be seen if Kumo is funded, we are excited about the possibility. The art stands out to us the most; it manages to look modern while still giving us some hints of nostalgia. Kumo promises to be heavy on clever puzzles and emotional storytelling, and we’re here for all of that.
