Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Playful Darkness Boss Guide
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the newest release from developer Owlcat Games. An impressive CRPG in its own right, the game still has many secrets for its players to uncover. The quests can get pretty challenging the further you progress into the game and the bosses you encounter will really start to challenge you. So we’ve put together a quick guide for the Playful Darkness encounter that can be found in the ‘Midnight Fane’ Quest.
Fighting Playful Darkness
Playful Darkness is not an easy encounter, in fact it could prove to be the most challenging enemy in the game the first time you encounter it. Not only are its stats incredibly high (68 AC on Core & 53 AC on Medium), it can also one-shot your entire party if you aren’t careful. Plus it comes equipped with many abilities that can drain your levels and strength as well as a very strong regeneration ability.
In order to overcome this enemy, you’re going to have to pay careful attention to the abilities it uses and the weaknesses it may have. Firstly, it has poor Reflex and cannot execute Reflex Saving throws well at all. So any abilities that must be avoided by using such this stat (Grease, Web, etc) will be good to use against the boss. Secondly, you want to make sure you’re dealing as much damage to it as possible during your turns. So use summons and all of your most powerful abilities to deal as much damage as possible.
Getting the boss down to zero HP isn’t actually enough to kill it since it is able to regenerate. So you’ll need to perform a special action to finish it off. The simplest way to do this is with a Coup de Grace, which may take several attempts to successfully land. Coup de Grace is able to kill any enemy, regardless of regeneration, as long as the enemy is in a helpless state so be sure to use this to your advantage. Playful Darkness is a really tough enemy to defeat, but as long as you’re smart and observant you should be able to take it down in no time.
Conclusion
Playful Darkness is a tough opponent, but hopefully this advice was helpful enough for you to best it. If it did manage to help you out, be sure to let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
