Tasha’s Caustic Brew is a nice damage-dealing Level 1 spell. It allows you to emit a stream of acid for up to 30 feet, covering anyone in its path with damaging acid unless they make a dexterity save.

A stream of acid emanates from you in a line 30 feet long and 5 feet wide in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be covered in acid for the spell’s duration or until a creature uses its action to scrape or wash the acid off itself or another creature. A creature covered in the acid takes 2d4 acid damage at start of each of its turns.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot level above 1st.

This spell is another great damage dealer and honestly, in the right situation, it can do you a lot of good. Tasha’s Caustic Brew is a 1st-level Evocation spell which means you could get this spell almost immediately if you wanted it. It has a 30 foot range and launches in a straight line so it’s strictly for one target at a time. It takes an action to cast and can last up to a minute.

Now in practice this spell could be a little on the gross side. The way it works is that a stream of acid emanates from you in a 30 foot long line and along a 5 foot wide space. Because of this you can’t really use it to affect more than one target at a time, but it’s damaging enough to not matter. The creature you use it on has to succeed a Dexterity saving throw or else it’ll get covered in acid for up to a minute. Or until the creature uses an action to wash the acid off of itself. At the start of each of its turns, if the acid hasn’t been washed off, it takes 2d4 acid damage.

So this is a pretty good spell, especially for those earlier levels. And it gets even better at higher levels when you use it in a spell slot of 2nd-level or higher. Since the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot above 1st-level. So really this is a great way of targeting a specific enemy. But it can be fairly useless if the enemy manages to get the acid washed off in time before it takes any damage. So be careful that you don’t end up wasting a turn with this spell.
