Baldur’s Gate 3: Does Resistance Stack?

One of the concepts that was ported directly from 5th Edition D&D to Baldur’s Gate 3 is resistance. If you are resistant to a type of damage, the amount of damage you are dealt from that source is halved. But what if you earn resistance to the same type of damage twice? Get the answer in our Baldur’s Gate 3 Does Resistance Stack Guide.

Resistance Does Not Stack in Baldur’s Gate 3

baldurs gate 3 does resistance stack

Resistance does not stack in Baldur’s Gate 3 – you either have it or you don’t. If you have resistance to a certain type of damage, that damage is halved. This the case whether you have resistance from one source or many. An example would be having resistance to fire damage based on both your race and your subclass.

Resistance and Vulnerability can Negate Each Other

Resistances might not stack, but what about having resistance and vulnerability to the same damage type? In Baldur’s Gate 3, vulnerabilities do not stack either. That means if you have three different sources that make you vulnerable to a type of damage, it is treated the same as if you had one. However, if you gain resistance and vulnerability to the same damage type, they negate each other leaving you to take the normal amount of damage from that source.

Does Two Resistances Make an Immunity in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Resistance and immunity are similar concepts. While resistance limits a certain type of damage you take, immunity prevents you from taking that type of damage at all. That is where the similarities end, however. A character does not gain immunity to damage based on having resistance to it. That means not only does resistance not stack, but getting resistance to a type of damage a second time does not lead to immunity.
